Summary

Universities are continually facing the challenges of aging infrastructure and tight budgets. In addition, there’s greater interest in obtaining data and making decisions that positively impact plant efficiency and reliability. Plant control systems are a key component of the equation. This presentation will present approaches to controls upgrades in central plants by highlighting case studies of IDEA member universities, with a particular focus on MIT. The goal of the presentation is to provide university utility decision makers with a better perspective on methods to proactive controls upgrade planning for their PLC or DCS based systems.
