Thermal Energy Storage (TES) has long been used in District Cooling applications, including well over 100 university, medical, research, airport, and military campuses. Notable current and growing trends in TES applications will be examined through case studies, including examples of:•Chilled Water (CHW) TES for emergency cooling of Mission Critical Facilities•TES to “flatten” electric load profiles for improved economics of CHP and renewables•CHW TES for Turbine Inlet Cooling of gas turbines•Low Temperature TES to reduce the size of storage and piping.•Complementing CHW TES with Hot Water TES•TES to optimize value from changing/emerging electric rate structures
