Today's microgirds integrate considerable distributed energy resources (DERs) such as wind, solar, and energy storage with variable and controlled output power. This offers a great deal of flexibility which could help operation while it introduces several challenges to conventional design, control and operation. Further, microgrids are expected to be operational in islanded mode where a close coordination of DERs during design and operation is required. To provide an environment where the aforementioned challenges can be addressed, a model-based online power management solution would be introduced. This solution utilizes online data, system model, operator commands to fully simulate, predict, control and optimize microgrid operation in real time.
