When Gallaudet, the national university for the deaf, decided to explore the possibility of expanding its campus energy infrastructure it partnered with Urban Ingenuity to undertake a cost-effective feasibility study. The result of this work was a preliminary proof of concept design for a microgrid with 4 MW of CHP and 3 MW of on-site solar. This initial effort was the foundation of a successful procurement process which attracted more than two dozen qualified implementation teams. This session will cover the methodical process Gallaudet followed to determine project viability and select a project implementation team. We will also provide an update on results to date regarding project scope and design, and the ESA structure.
