The University of Virginia (UVA) comprises 16 million square feet on 1,175 acres. Energy conservation and operational efficiency are campus-wide focuses supporting university growth plans, targeting energy conservation and reductions in carbon emissions. After an initial technology trial in 2012, UVA adopted continuous sponge-ball tube cleaning systems as “Best Practice” for campus chillers to: optimize chiller energy efficiency, reduce chiller maintenance effort and expense, and improve safety of chilled water plant operations.
