Use of Biodiesel and Biodiesel Co-Products as Renewable Fuels for Power/Thermal Generation Facilities

06-30-2017 14:19

Summary

Biodiesel and its co-products including biodiesel distillation bottoms (Heavy Esters) can be utilized today with existing equipment, as a renewable, high BTU alternative to traditional fuel sources in both power and thermal generation facilities.  In addition depending on where a power/thermal generation facility is located, there may be an opportunity to generate Renewable Energy Credits (RECS) for power generation, and/or Renewable Identification Numbers (RINS) when used to generate heat for the home comfort market.  By generating RECS and or RINS, facilities may be able to access a high BTU, renewable feedstock with low greenhouse gas emissions at economics better than traditional liquid fuels.
