Summary

BOSTON - July 11, 2005 - Joel L. Greene, lead partner of the Washington, D.C., office of Jennings, Strouss & Salmon PLC, received the International District Energy Association's (IDEA) prestigious Norman R. Taylor award June 28 at the organization's 96th Annual Conference & Trade Show in St. Paul.

This award is the highest distinction IDEA can confer on an individual, recognizing that person's lifetime achievements and contributions to the district energy and combined heat and power industry. Greene has been an IDEA member for 11 years. He served as IDEA chair from 2003-2004, received IDEA's Chairman's Award in 2000 and 2001, and was honored with IDEA's Unsung Hero Award in 2002.

Greene had been in private law practice in the Washington, D.C., area since 1974, before joining Phoenix-based Jennings Strouss in 2004 and establishing its D.C. office. He assists clients in energy regulatory matters, legal strategic planning, contract negotiations and advocacy before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, state commissions and courts. IDEA Chairman Anders Rydaker, president of District Energy St. Paul Inc., presented the award: “Joel Greene has been an energetic and forceful agent for positive change during his six years on the board of IDEA. He started by organizing a fuels forum to help members understand the complexity of fuel commodities. He then helped reorganize our association, revise our by-laws and much, much more. As chair, he began the initiative to open IDEA's doors to a broader world and welcome involvement from our colleagues and friends from around the globe. Through it all, he did it with grace, dignity and an obvious commitment to the best interests of our organization.”

The award's namesake, Norman R. Taylor, who served with much distinction, was IDEA's president from 1977-1978, and executive director from 1980 until he passed away in 1986.
