IDEA is saddened to report that our friend and industry colleague Al Thumann, the longtime leader of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), has passed away on December 10 after a courageous battle with brain cancer (GBM).
Al was a devoted and dedicated champion for energy efficiency. He founded The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), a nonprofit, professional membership society in 1977 and served as its Executive Director for 40 years. Under his leadership, AEE grew from an idea to an industry leading association of over 18,000 professionals in more than 100 countries. Al is a noted author with over 26 professional reference books in print. He taught energy management classes to thousands of students and is widely known as the “father of energy efficiency.”
Al was clearly a leading voice in our industry and will be missed by all who came to know him. Please keep Al’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. His service will be held at
Dressler's Funeral Home on Thursday December 14 at 11:00 am. The family request no flowers be sent, but rather donations be made to the National Brain Tumor Society
