Rise in electricity produced in CHP plants from renewable energy sources in Latvia

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, in 2017 the amount of electricity produced in combined heat and power (CHP)1 plants comprised 3000.1 gigawatt hours (GWh), which constitutes 40% of the total amount of electricity generated in Latvia. The share of electricity produced in CHP plants from renewable energy sources (RES) grew, comprising 31% in 2017. Last year, CHP plants produced 6301.7 GWh of heat, which is 76% of the total heat generated.

Last year, there were 204 active CHP plants in Latvia, which is six CHP plants more than in 2016. Since 2008, the total installed electric capacity of CHP plants has increased 2.2 times reaching 1299.1 MW in 2017, which is 1% or 7 MW more than in 2016.
