Southeast London in line to gain new heat network

The borough of Lewisham in southeast London is examining the potential for a new district heat network. The borough has taken the first steps in developing the project with energy potentially being generated from the area’s waste incineration plant.

Lewisham’s mayor and cabinet have agreed to enter into a memorandum of understanding with energy company Veolia to develop a heat network around the incineration facility.

Cabinet member for the community sector Councillor Jonathan Slater said, “The heat network will be from the South East London Combined Heat and Power facility, which is an opportunity to supply heat direct from the borough’s waste, for the benefit of residents and businesses in the borough.”
