Summary
German engineering group Siemens AG has won a contract to design and engineer a self-sufficient smart medium-voltage microgrid in Finland for local district heating firm Lempäälän Energia Oy.
The Lemene project calls for the installation of a grid in the Marjamäki industry area in the municipality of Lempäälä, near Tampere. It will be supplied by solar power fields, consisting of over 15,000 panels with an annual electricity output of 3,600 MWh. The system will also include six gas motors and fuel cells. Siemens noted that the energy community production facilities use combined heat and power production to maximise efficiency. Surplus electricity will be offered to grid operator Fingrid.
