Plamena Tisheva, Renewables Now
Summary
September 12 (Renewables Now) - 2G Energy AG (ETR:2GB), a German manufacturer of gas-driven combined heat and power (CHP) systems, said today it has received an order for a CHP system that is driven by hydrogen produced from renewable energy.
The system, to be provided to Stadtwerk Hassfurt GmbH, will be fuelled by hydrogen produced by a power-to-gas-system at the port of Hassfurt that uses surplus electricity generated by a nearby wind park for the electrolysis of the water. The CHP system will turn the hydrogen into electricity and heating in line with demand. The electricity will be supplied to the city's electricity grid, while the heating will go to a neighboring malt factory, a school and a kindergarten through a heating grid that is yet to be built.
According to the announcement, this will be the first CHP system in everyday operation in Germany with purely renewables-produced hydrogen.
