 (AP) — The Latest on an EPA public hearing on methane pollution rules (all times local):

People who live near oil and gas wells are asking the  not to roll back Obama-era rules for methane pollution, while industry representatives say the proposed changes should go further.

The EPA held a hearing Wednesday in  on the Trump administration's plans to loosen the regulations. It's the only public hearing planned.

The EPA wants to replace a 2016 rule requiring energy companies to step up the detection and elimination of methane leaks at well sites and other oil and gas facilities.

Methane is the primary component of natural gas. It's also a greenhouse gas.
