Politicians and experts gathered at a UN conference in the southern Polish city of Katowice on Thursday discussed ways of limiting emissions from heating systems to mitigate climate change.
During a lecture entitled “District Heating as an Effective Tool for Improving Air Quality” at the conference’s Polish pavilion, an expert in the field, Jacek Szymczak, said Poland needed to tackle the problem of old and inefficient stoves in many homes, one of the main causes of smog in the country.
The 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, also known as COP24, officially opened in Katowice on December 3 and runs until Friday.
