America Crece Energy Panama Meeting to be held Feb 20

By District Energy posted 02-11-2019 13:50

America Crece Energy is an innovative, whole of government initiative designed to facilitate and catalyze private sector energy investments in Latin America and the Caribbean, by addressing structural, regulatory, legal, and market barriers to investment.

On August 17, 2018 the United States Energy and Treasury Departments signed an agreement with Panama as part of the America Crece initiative, recognized as a “framework agreement” for several countries in the region to encourage private investment to increase access to cheaper, cleaner energy.

The first meeting to engage the US industry in this initiative will be held in Washington DC on Feb 20 from 9am-1pm. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry will open the session with an overview of the market and investment plans. The Panama Canal Authority will present on the LNG import and infrastructure plans, with Panama presenting on its status and plans in T&D, gas conversion, renewables, off-grid and energy efficiency.  Finally, the regulator will present information on the recent black outs and plans to mitigate these going forward.

Open discussion is planned after each of these so that companies can ask questions and make suggestions. A networking lunch will follow the event. In addition to the Secretary, ETESA, the regulator and the Panama Canal Authority, other senior officials related to energy and in-bound investment will be there – along with US government officials from Treasury, State and Energy.

If you would like more information on this meeting, please contact IDEA and we’d be happy to forward your interest along.
