Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, chaired the council’s 64th meeting held remotely. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice-Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, attended the meeting.
Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Energy, attended the meeting along with board members Dawood Al Hajiri, director-general of Dubai Municipality; Abdulla bin Kalban, managing director of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA); Saif Humaid Al Falasi, CEO of Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc); and Frederick Chemin, general manager of Dubai Petroleum.
The meeting discussed several topics including the precautionary measures taken by Enoc against Covid-19. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum emphasised the importance of promoting receiving Covid-19 vaccine and making use of the services the UAE provides through the health centres in the emirate.
“During the meeting, we discussed several strategies, decisions and plans that support the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enhance sustainable development and increase the share of renewable and clean energy. These include Resolution No. (6) of 2021 regulating district cooling services in Dubai, issued by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. This will enhance the efficiency of district cooling units and the activities related to generating, distributing, and selling cooling capacity,” said Al Tayer.
“This decision supports the directives of the wise leadership in the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to provide 75 per cent of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050 as well as our efforts to reduce carbon emissions through the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy and the Demand Side Management Strategy 2030, which aims to reduce electricity and water demand by 30 per cent by 2030. This is part of our efforts to make Dubai a pioneering model for electricity and water demand management,” added Al Tayer.
