During the Welcome Dinner and Chair’s Banquet Reception, the kick-off event of the IDEA2021 Annual Conference in Austin, Texas, IDEA was honored to present the prestigious and much-anticipated 2021 IDEA System of the Year Award to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center Thermal and their energy service partner Ever-Green Energy.
During these challenging times, when our nation has been critically dependent on our health care systems, it is now more important than ever that patients can rely on health care systems like the MRMC to power their communities. MRMC Thermal has been in operation for nearly 70 years and recently completed a six-year technological transformation to become an outstanding model of modern performance, reliability and efficiency. By modernizing the energy system, they are now exceeding the demands of a healthcare system serving the needs of 1.5 million patients, 17,500 personnel, 1,400 students, 949 medical students, 900 physicians, 370 graduate students, 130 research scientists and 48 pharmacy students every year. Through this top-to-bottom modernization, a team of 26 Ever-Green Energy employees now operates, manages, and maintains the system to the highest standards following industry best practices and leveraging the wealth of operational experience across the company.

The award was accepted by Mark Geronime, PE, Vice President of Operations, Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, Robert Mlynarek, Vice President of Finance, Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, Ken Smith, President and CEO, Ever-Green Energy and others from the Ever-Green team. “We are humbled to receive this award and follow the other prestigious members who have won. It has been rewarding to see our system achieve its vision of 100% reliability in support of the critical lifesaving care, education, and research that happens every day at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center,” said Mark Geronime, “We are grateful to our construction and operations partners that have shared our goals and joined us in our bold decisions.”
As Bob Smith, Chair of the System of the Year Committee noted, “The selection of MRMC and Ever-Green for the 2021 System of the Year was an easy one. It is a shining example of how the partnership between our members and a medical campus energy system can benefit a large community. A 7.5 million square foot campus, delivering heating and cooling to 21 buildings across its 250-acre campus has lowered its greenhouse gas emissions by 70%, cut water use by 36% and raised its cooling reliability to 99.998%? That is an outstanding achievement worthy of this prestigious award and illustrates the inherent value of district energy to its customers.”#News#MemberNewsIDEA#EverGreenEnergy
