Swedish energy company Stockholm Exergi has selected Mitsubishi Power Europe to modernise the combined heat and power (CHP) plant, Kraftvärmeverk 1 (KVV1) at Värtaverket, Stockholm.
The plant was originally built in 1976 for fossil fuels. However, Mitsubishi Power Europe will modernise the boiler to handle sustainable recycled fuels like bio-oil.
The renovation also involves automating the plant’s control system to a modern distributed control system (DCS) and installing new low NOx burners to reduce nitrogen dioxide emissions.
