Summary
With Jupiter, Forschungszentrum Jülich is getting the first European supercomputer that can do at least 1 trillion calculations with double precision per second, i.e. achieve 1 FP64 exaflops – which corresponds to a 1 followed by 18 zeros. Construction is scheduled to begin as early as 2023, with a budget of 500 million euros.
In the future, Jupiter will be operated entirely with green electricity and hot water cooling. The JSC wants to recycle the waste heat – in winter, for example, it would be conceivable to use it as district heating for heating systems.
