Summary

Manufacturer of smart solutions for heat networks is urging operators to ensure they are prepared for the potential introduction of new efficiency legislation

A third round of funding has now opened for the £32m Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES).

The incentive was introduced earlier this year as a means to fund work in England and Wales to improve the efficiency of existing district heating systems. One of the main focuses for the funding is to help cover the costs of measures to introduce efficiency improvements through the use of upgraded insulation and pumps, as well as by implementing new control systems.  It will also assist heat network operators to source effective expertise on where improvement can be made in their systems.

The scheme is scheduled to run for a two-year period that ends in 2025. With the latest round of applications now open.

Some manufacturers specialising in the supply of Heat Interface Units (HIUs) and other efficiency services have sought to build up awareness of the HNES funding as a means to futureproof against the possibility of stricter incoming regulations on heat pump performance.
