IDEA is pleased to announce that the nominations for the 2023-24 Executive Committee and the 2023-26 Board of Directors were officially approved by the voting members in attendance at the IDEA Annual Business Meeting on Wednesday, June 7, at IDEA2023 in Chicago, IL, our 114th Annual Conference.
We are pleased to announce that Carlyle Coutinho, CEO, of Enwave Energy will serve as Chair of the IDEA Board for 2023-24, with Joan Kowal, Director, Development at NextEra Energy serving as Vice Chair.
David Woodson, Executive Director of Campus Energy, Utilities & Operations at the University of Washington joins the Executive Committee as Second Vice Chair, as does Tim Peer, Vice President, District Energy at Bond Brothers, Inc. as Director-at-Large.
Secretary/Treasurer, Robert Manning, Senior Director of Engineering & Utilities at Harvard University and Immediate Past Chair, David Musto, Board Member at Thermo Systems round out this incredible team of industry leaders.
Many thanks to Christopher Potter, Director, Utilities and Power Plant Operations at Architect of the Capitol for his many years of service on the Executive Committee.
IDEA is also pleased to welcome our three newest members of the IDEA Board of Directors. Chase Davis, Energy Infrastructure Project Manager at RMF Engineering; Paul Holt, Vice President, Engineering & Operations (Canada) at Corix Utilities, Inc.; and Jennifer Meisenhelder, Director of Energy and Engineering at the University of Florida.
In addition, IDEA was pleased to welcome back three returning Board members for a second three-year term, including Michael Ahern, Sr. VP, System Development, Ever-Green Energy; Sam Chatterton, Vice President, Johnson Controls, Inc.; and Olivier Racle, Deputy Director District Heating & Cooling, ENGIE.
IDEA would like to thank Tom Nyquist, Executive Director of Engineering, Princeton University and Henry Johnstone, President Emeritus, GLHN Architects and Engineers for serving on the IDEA Board of Directors for two consecutive three-year terms. Both were presented with President’s Awards recognizing their many contributions and dedication to advancing the district energy industry.

The International District Energy Association (IDEA) was founded in 1909 and is supported by a 22-member Board of Directors. This was the 114th Annual Conference held by IDEA.
