I’m on the ground in Dubai for hashtag#COP28 where I moderated two panels on the benefits and potential of hashtag#DistrictCooling technologies.
I first want to thank our host EMPOWER and their CEO Ahmad bin Shafar, a dedicated member of IDEA for over 20 years, for his leadership, support and commitment to advancing district cooling as a critical energy and climate solution. The team at Empower stepped forward to lead the District Cooling Summit and made it possible for IDEA Chair Carlyle Coutinho, CEO of Enwave and Steve Swinson, former IDEA board chair/member emeritus to attend and share their deep experience in district cooling.
IDEA is also pleased to be supporting member organizations in their endorsement of the Global Cooling Pledge. The COP28 UAE Presidency and the UN Environment Programme Cool Coalition are leading the pledge, which aims to make sustainable cooling solutions more affordable and resilient, especially in developing countries, while reducing planet-warming emissions from the cooling sector.
