On a cold winter morning, the inside of the new Yampa Valley Community Foundation office on the corner of Fourth and Oak streets in downtown Steamboat Springs is evenly warm throughout the building despite many windows that keep the workplace bright.
Triple-pane windows, high-value insulation and a geothermally powered ground-source heat pump system are the reasons for the comfort in the 3,500-square-foot building, said Tim Wohlgenant, CEO at the foundation, during a building tour.
“The responsiveness of our heating and cooling is remarkable,” Wohlgenant said. “We love it.”
The Colorado Energy Office currently offers a Geothermal Energy Grant Program to support the use of geothermal energy for electricity generation and space- or water-heating and cooling in homes, businesses and communities. Applications for the current round of funding closes at 5 p.m. Jan. 19.
