Gundersen Health System and Xcel Energy are working to bring self-sufficient and renewable energy to Gundersen’s Onalaska campus.
Xcel Energy will bring microgrid technology to Gundersen’s campus, allowing the health system to operate without using energy from the public electric grid. The microgrid upgrade will connect a new battery system to the building that will efficiently store the renewable energy Gundersen already produces through solar panels and methane waste from the La Crosse County landfill located on the opposite side of Interstate 90.
