Summary

Two courts buildings in Bradford will aim to make use of renewable heat via an agreement to connect to a new district heating system in the city.

Both the Bradford Combined Court Centre and Magistrates Court will connect up to the Bradford Energy Network that is due to go live in 2026 as part of wider plans to decarbonise buildings across the city.

The HM Courts and Tribunals Service said a 20-year agreement has been reached with the operators of the Bradford Energy Network to link up to the network that will predominantly make use of a large-scale heat pump.

The agreement is expected to make the two buildings some of the first courts in England and Wales to adopt lower carbon technologies for the majority of their heating demands.

This will amount to savings of 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (tCO2) across the two buildings, according to a statement on the agreement.
