The OPC had already published a list of recommendations that it said would help ease reliance on fossil fuels in the medium and long-term. These include improving public transport, promoting shared electric car schemes, subsidies for (district) heat pumps and connection to district heating networks, and collectively organised retrofitting schemes for improving the energy performance of houses.
The Luxembourg government should consider providing direct income support to vulnerable consumers instead of universal energy subsidies, said a science council in an opinion published on Monday.
