New engine from Rolls-Royce could change everything

Rolls-Royce has hit an important milestone as it receives H2-ready certificate for its current MTU Series 4000 FNER/FV gas engines – as the company gears up to produce its first 100% hydrogen engines.

Rolls-Royce has said it will deliver its first 100% hydrogen combined heat and power (CHP) in the next few months, with the first installation of MTU engines running on 100% hydrogen planned for early 2025 for the Enerport II lighthouse project in the German inland port of Duisburg.

As part of the luxury carmaker’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, it has received H2 readiness certification from TÜV Süd. 

This means that its current MTU Series 4000 FNER/FV gas engines are ‘H2-ready’ as the components and systems used are prepared for future use with hydrogen and can be converted accordingly.
