GeoExchange should be part of Mass. energy mix

For Massachusetts to achieve its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, it must actively embrace all renewables, including GeoExchange.

GeoExchange systems have been around for decades. Countries like Sweden and Canada, with frigid winters, are pioneers in the technology using the below-ground temperatures of 55-70F degrees to heat and cool homes. In Sweden, more than 40% of residential homes are equipped with GeoExchange systems. Markham, Canada, is incorporating GeoExchange into its largest residential community, considered to the biggest in the country. This installation will reduce carbon emissions by 75% compared to a typical home with a natural gas furnace. Now Princeton University is leading the way stateside with a multimillion-dollar project that will shift the heating and cooling of buildings away from an array of carbon-based fuels they have relied on since 1746.
