Delta Management Group announced Markham District Energy (MDE) President & CEO, Bruce Ander, as one of its 2025 Canada’s Clean50 honourees in the Traditional Energy category during its “Clean50 Summit 14.0” in recognition of his leadership and contributions to sustainability in Canada.
Ander has held the position of President & CEO of MDE since 2002 growing the company from its modest start in 2000 to Canada’s leading district energy utility serving over 15 million square feet of connected buildings via four high-efficiency energy production plants, while introducing energy reduction initiatives and advising municipalities and organizations across Canada wanting to launch district energy systems modelled after the Markham story.
“MDE’s position as a leader in the Canadian district energy sector is a testament to the company's focus on innovation and we are pleased Delta Management Group is recognizing MDE’s leadership through its Clean50 Awards,” said MDE Chair, Keith Irish. “Bruce’s drive for sustainability and reducing the company’s carbon footprint has been a key factor especially considering our recent groundbreaking on the world’s largest wastewater energy transfer system which will reduce carbon emissions by over 30,000 tonnes annually and sets the framework for MDE's plan to be net-zero by 2050.”
Canada’s Clean50 Awards are announced annually by Delta Management Group and the Clean50 organization to recognize 50 individuals or small teams, from 16 different categories, who have done the most to contribute to the clean economy in Canada over the past two years. In determining its honourees, Delta carefully considers actual measurable accomplishments, demonstrated innovation, collaboration with other organizations, and the power of the honouree’s contribution to inspire other Canadians to take similar action.
