The £17.3M Geothermal Energy Momentum on the Island of Ireland (Gemini) project aims to drive shallow and deep geothermal energy adoption across Ireland.

The four-year Geothermal Energy Momentum on the Island of Ireland (Gemini) project will showcase the diverse applications of geothermal energy at several demonstration sites in Belfast, Sligo and Dublin. These will be located at a community sports centre, a net-zero training hub for social housing, a university campus and a water service provider.

The Republic of Ireland's minister for the environment, climate and communications, Eamon Ryan, welcomed the Gemini project. “I am pleased to announce my department’s commitment to supporting the Gemini geothermal energy project. This project will help bring us closer to our 2030 and 2050 emission targets by supporting the Geothermal Energy and District Heating policies led by my department to decarbonise the heating and cooling sector, which is a critical element of the Irish Government’s Climate Action Plan.
