Summary

Vilnius is taking a bold step towards sustainable energy – construction of a green hydrogen plant will begin in the capital. A trilateral agreement has been signed between Vilnius city municipalities, the largest heat supplier in Lithuania Vilnius heat networks and the European energy infrastructure development company MT Group, which consolidates the planned construction of the plant.

“The plant is scheduled to start operations in the first half of 2026. Then, using water and electricity from renewable energy sources, up to 3,45 million m³ of green hydrogen will be produced annually – this is equivalent to approximately 2000 MWh of thermal energy,” says Gerimantas Bakanas, General Director of Vilnius District Heating Networks.

We are confident in the success of this project and have no doubt that close cooperation with the competent Vilnius District Heating Networks team will create the conditions for achieving even the most ambitious project goals," says Mindaugas Zakaras, CEO of MT Group.
