Summary
Germany is facing a major challenge: By 2050, all buildings in the country must be renovated to be zero-emission. This is stipulated by EU law, which must be transposed into national law in Germany by 2026. Germany already has a plan for this with the Building Energy Act (“Heating Act”) and the District Heating Planning Act, which are interconnected.
There are several ways to meet this quota, for example with a heat pump, a hybrid heating system (e.g. pellets + gas; solar heat + gas) or by connecting to a district heating network if the municipality wants to use one. A gas ban will soon come into force in many cities.
