Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of HPAC Magazine’s annual Sweet Heat hydronics installation contest, this year’s winners were announced at the closing of the 2025 Modern Hydronics Summit held in Calgary on Tuesday, September 16th.
The winning entry in the commercial category went to J&R Mechanical of Yellowknife, NWT. The company handled the heating requirements for the new Yellowknife Aquatic Centre. J&R connected the aquatic centre to a local district energy system that uses a biomass boiler. The system heats the building, its three pools, and the DHW. Supplemental oil boilers were installed but are seldom required. Even in the dead of winter the district energy system had no problem keeping up.
