Renfrew County council has given approval for the third-largest employer in the region to move forward with its plans to build an ambitious cogeneration power plant.
The Golden Lake Power Limited Partnership, headed by Ben Hokum and Son Limited President Dean Felhaber with the help of former MPP John Yakabuski, is estimated to provide dozens of well-paying jobs and generate enough low-carbon electricity to power up to 12,000 homes.
Mr. Felhaber said the project is a 50-50 split between Hokum’s and St. Catharines-based firm, CEM (Cogeneration and Energy Management) Engineering, who have joined forces to build the 13.5 megawatt cogeneration plant.
