Summary
Energa Group, a subsidiary of Polish energy company Orlen, has commissioned a new cogeneration system at the Kalisz Combined Heat and Power Plant in Poland. The system includes two gas engines with a combined thermal capacity of 20 megawatts (MW) and electrical capacity of 20 MW. Both engines have completed testing, and this marks the successful conclusion of Energa Kogeneracja’s investment program in the city.
According to estimates, they will be able to produce approximately 398,000 gigajoules (GJ) of thermal energy annually, covering about 47 per cent of the city’s district heating network demand. As cogeneration units that generate both heat and electricity, they will optimise operations at the Kalisz plant and increase its profitability, according to the company. The engines are also expected to deliver up to 96,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually.
