Biofor spotlights federal support for transforming Canada’s forest products

The federal government is providing $2.35 billion to the forest sector. The industry, in turn, will be able to provide input as to the strategies for such investments.

“A national bioeconomy strategy is important,” Henry said, “but there’s an immediate focus on stabilizing the forest sector with the transformation task force and the map it puts forward.”

In addition to incentivizing modern methods of wood construction for housing, which gets lots of mainstream attention, Henry emphasized the value of the rest of the supply chain, with the task force incorporating further input from the industry.

“I’m a huge believer in bioheat and district energy systems,” she added. “We have a bioheat program focused on remote, rural and Indigenous communities to get them off diesel, rather than targeting built-up urban areas.”
