Ever walked down a city street and wonder: what is the vapor coming up from the manhole? You are not alone.

When WBZ | CBS Boston's Matt Shearer took to the streets to ask what the people of Boston thought, he ended up at the Vicinity Energy facility.

Matt, like most people, was surprised to know what is actually happening beneath the streets in cities like Boston. District energy systems have been powering cities for generations, delivering reliable heating and cooling to some of the city’s most critical operations — from hospitals to museums to universities.
