Austrian energy company OMV and Styrian energy utility Energie Steiermark are partnering to advance deep geothermal energy in Styria. The companies established a joint project called Tiefenkraft to assess the region’s geothermal potential. In the long term, it could deliver up to 670 GWh of geothermal energy annually by 2037, equivalent to around 50 per cent of the district heating supply in the greater Graz area.
Heat delivery could begin in 2030.
