Summary
Yukon University‘s Polaris Project, designed and engineered by Stantec, has become the first building in the Territories to achieve the Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC‘s) Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) design standard certification.
Designed for a northern climate, Polaris uses heat pumps with low-global-warming-potential (low-GWP) refrigerants and captures waste heat from the campus energy plant’s primary boiler system to reduce operational carbon while supporting its labs, classrooms and community spaces. An airtight building envelope combines a Larsen truss wall system with a mass-timber structure.
