11-09-2017 11:38

Summary

The GRU Energy Center provides thermal and electrical utilities to the Shands Cancer Center at the University of Florida Campus.  The energy center together with the assoicated medical facilities are designed to proactively island via operator intervention forming a self-sustaining microgrid in response to potential weather events and automatically in response to utility grid disturbances.  The facilitiy was originally equipped in Phase 1 with a 5MW combustion turbine generator and is currently being upgraded with addition of a 7MW reciprocating engine generator in Phase 2.  This presentation follows the project microgrid islanding design and operational modifications from original inception through Phase 2.
