Resilient Redundant Control Systems Bridging Multiple Plants

02-20-2020 12:13

Summary

As part of a larger commissioning effort at CU Boulder’s East Plant and West Plant, AEI helped identify discrepancies between the control system installation, design drawings, and specifications. The control system installations for equipment and balance of plant controls are critical components for both of CU Boulder’s plants to operate as one allowing them to achieve resilient redundant operations. CU Boulder’s solution involves many aspects, including redundant balance of plant Allen Bradley PLCs utilizing a Citect SCADA system operating on local servers. Equipment PLCs are networked together utilizing a dedicated fault tolerant Ethernet ring and the SCADA system is on its own dedicated Ethernet redundant network.
