Automated Chiller Plant Demand Control

02-26-2019 11:26

Summary

NYU Langone Health's Main Campus has 4 interconnected chiller plants (one of which is steam driven), all with very different utility tariff structures. Using in-house expertise, NYULH has developed unique chiller dispatch and controls strategies and automated the shifting of load from one plant to another in order to manage electric demand peaks and minimize operating costs. Although the programming is very complex, the overall strategy has been boiled down into a consistent protocol that is easy for the plant operators to follow. NYULH has paired these strategies with an automated demand response system to further avoid unnecessary demand peaks.
