As more campuses convert to hot water distribution, there is opportunity to use of heat recovery chillers to increase system efficiency. This presentation discusses new strategies that can extend the effectiveness of heat recovery chillers that can dramatically reduce energy use. Application of these strategies is dependent on many factors, including aggregated load profiles and gas and electric prices. When applied in a campus setting, this raises interesting challenges ranging including coordination of heat sinks and sources and billing. We will use the example of MetroHealth Replacement Hospital and the possible outsourcing of its Central Utility Plant as the framework for the presentation and an interactive discussion on the challenges.
