In 2008, Hurricane Ike crippled the University of Texas Medical Branch, the free health care center in Galveston. Among the initiatives taken to put the facility back on its feet, the installation of a cogeneration plant to ensure a constant supply of energy proved decisive. This is because when the center was hit by Hurricane Harvey a few years later it successfully continued to guarantee all its activities thanks to the resilience of the cogeneration plant.
