Session Abstract

In 2016, the UCLA Cogeneration facility commissioned a cooling tower blow down recycling system to reduce usage of the municipal water supply. As a collaborative effort between the University, Worley Group, and US Water, the project was designed with a goal of recycling 45% of cooling tower blow down.

In an August 2014 study project the goal was the identification of technology capable of reducing the use of potable water at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Co-Generation facility via the recycling of water from cooling tower blowdown to reuse in the cooling tower.

The Study recommended Ultra Filtration (UF) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) system with 45% recovery versus a High Efficiency Reverse Osmosis (HERO) at 75% recovery.
