Solar Solar Turbines has supplied more than 100 turbines as the core of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants to numerous Universities and Colleges around the world. A CHP plant, alone or in conjunction with renewables, serves to drive down energy costs and increase reliability, while reducing carbon footprint.Solar Turbines and Penn State University have been long time technology partners. Penn State runs on two Taurus 70 gas turbine generator sets and one more Taurus 60 generator set is in the process of being added. The turbines operate as part of the campus microgrid. The case study elaborates on the operating profile of the CHP plant and on the associated benefits.
