Designing Advanced Microgrids for ‘Shelters in Place’

11-01-2018 11:11

Summary

Microgrids can be clearly defined to include interconnected loads and distributed energy resources (DER) across several rights of way. In New Jersey, these “advanced microgrids” are defined as Town Center Distributed Energy Resources (TCDER) microgrids. After Hurricane Sandy, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, which is the State Energy Office, updated the Energy Master Plan with action items for improved electric infrastructure reliability and resiliency, including recommendations for increased use of microgrids for DER.
