Installing or connecting chilled or heating pipe from a new building to a district utility must be cleaned and flushed properly. This is a critical, but often overlooked step. Concern by operators is on the rise as they recognize that they need to protect their plant investment and optimize energy efficiency. This presentation discussed the practical drivers behind this movement, and covered the specifications, budgeting, equipment, and techniques needed to perform proper flushing for District Plants. Multiple examples, including a large TECO flush for Memorial Hermann in Houston Texas, were presented. Information allowed attendees to walk away with practical and best of class concepts that can be applied to their next project.
