District Energy System Fueled by Industrial Waste Heat

09-28-2023 10:35

Session Abstract

In this presentation, the attendees will learn about an exciting community-based project that focusses on the application of innovative district energy technologies to unlock the potential for an area-wide industrial waste heat network. The presentation will shed light on a many-to-many model that connects multiple thermal "sources" to multiple thermal "sinks" via a shared thermal microgrid. It will touch on the GHG savings from the waste heat energy of the donor offsetting carbon emissions of the user. Key takeaways from the session would include: a public-private partnership (PPP) model, risk management approach, required policy modifications and next steps to implement the utilization of industrial waste heat to offset GHG emissions.
