District Heating Using Concentrating Solar Collectors – A Case Study

08-16-2023 11:08

Session Abstract

Absolicon has built a unique demonstration facility for large-scale district heating. Upon completion of all phases, this will be Sweden’s largest solar thermal field with small concentrating collectors connected to district heating. The heat from the 9,246m2 solar field has a 73C to 120C working temperature, fed directly into the city district heating network. Factors impacting the projects acceptance and delivery will be addressed (e.g. government support programs). Project lessons learned / best practices will be shared. As well, the project benefits and the performance of the solar thermal field energy production, as validated by the third parties (Research Institute of Sweden and Umea University), will be presented.
